The Texas half dollar Is one of the most popular U.S coins. Franklin D. Roosevelt, took office on March 5, 1933, and approved the issuance of the Texas half to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Texas' independence. The Mint produced it from 1934 through 1938 at all three mints many varieties have a very low-mintage. A complete set consists of 13 pieces. The coin's designer was the artist, Pompeo Coppini. The obverse portrays an American eagle and the Lone Star of Texas. The complex reverse features a winged female, Victory, a replica of the Alamo and the six flags that have flown over Texas. To the left is a portrait of Sam Houston and to the right, a portrait of Stephen Austin. Congress authorized 1.5 million Texas halves, but the total mintage is 149,661 and a great portion of the mintage has been lost to abuse. It is possible to obtain a superb specimen,However a complete set of Texas halves requires patience and a discerning eye for strike. The Texas half is notoriously softly struck.
